VOCATIONAL CHURCH NEEDLEWORK
Become a professional embroiderer by attending our Vocational Training Course in fine hand embroidery. You will learn the techniques used in the manufacture of our church and home decor linens. You can obtain professional embroidery skills and begin a new career working for yourself in your own home environment.
You will be trained in centuries old hand embroidery techniques that are authentic to European heirloom embroideries and linens.
The Basics
DAY 1 HOW TO SET UP A HOME NEEDLEWORK BUSINESS
This session will bring an overview of how to set up a home needlework studio. You will learn about the hand embroidery industry and what is required to be successful as a professional. This session will be very important for understanding our requirements for setting up your home studio and to receive production embroidery work from our company.
DAY 2 -3 BASIC LINEN EMBROIDERY
You will learn basic embroidery techniques that will be the foundation for learning the skills necessary for production hand embroidery. Even if you already have basic skills, this class will help you develop particular habits and improved techniques essential for professional level work.
DAY 4 - 5 WHITEWORK EMBROIDERY
You will learn basic whitework embroidery stitches and techniques used in creating beautiful heirloom linens. There are many nuances that need to be taught in order to create an authentic embroidery. We will teach you those techniques and help you develop quality whitework. We will teach you how to acheive consistency for an authentic classical look to your embroidery.
DAY 6-7 SACRED CROSSES
DAY 8-9-10 SACRED MONOGRAMS
These classes will build upon the whitework and monogramming classes to give you a good understanding of fine linen church needlework. These classes will expand upon the fine details necessary in achieving excellent embroidery in crosses, sacred symbols - monograms. These motifs are classical & traditional and therefore must be practiced and applied by utilizing old world stitching techiques. You will perfect your sttiches by learning subtle styles and nuances necessary to achieve a high standard of skill in this field of embroidery.
DAY 11-12 HAND HEMSTITCHING
Basic Hemstitching for making small altar linens.
FOLLOW UP
Once you have completed your courses, you will be given assignments to complete at home. These assignments will include hand embroidering samples of your work. Once your work is sent back to the school, we will review your work. When your work is approved, you will be given a confirmation from Details In Design that you have successfully accomplished our course and can begin receiving Level I professional embroidery work.
When you have become confirned at a particular level in your training, you will be offered contracted embroidery assignments through company workrooms at Details In Design. Successful achievement of these skills will open up many areas of hand embroidery opportunity. This can include Churches, Interior Designers, Textile Designers and Historic Preservationists. Details In Design also offers post training opportunities in the linen industry.
