The Butterfly Brooch designs are inspired by the delicate patterns and rich color combinations seen in real butterfly wings, further enhanced by the equally intricate patterns and vivid colors of Italian Milefiori glass. During this 3 day workshop you will learn techniques required to make a highly scultured brooch base, then embellishing this using a broad range of metal thread work - such as pearl purl, couching, cut purl mosaic work, chipping, spangles and pleated metal. A full working project kit will be provided containing all materials required, fabrics with preprinted design lines, and a comprehensive, fully illustrated instruction book. All Materials Included

May 6-7, 2016 Whitework Buttons Class still Open
The Whitework Buttons are a fabulous way to explore the breadth of the whitework spectrum in greater depth. The project is inspired by the myriad textures, patterns and designs of historical buttons. Each button design teaches a range of stitches from the whitework specture such as sclulptured satin stitch, pulled work, drawn thread, net darning, shadow work, cutwork, Broderie Anglaise and Ayreshire needlelace. 5 Button design choices will be provided. AYR4ESHIRE BUTTON, BUTTERCUP BUTTON SCABIOUS BUTTON, ROSES BUTTON. Students may order 1 or more of the designs. They will be able to work 2 smaller buttons or 1 larger button in class. All materials are included in each of the kits. provided.

May 9-10, 2016 Elizabethan Sweetie Bag Sold Out
Sweete Bags are derived from the Elizabethan period. They are small bags usually square and measuring no more than 3 to 5 inches. They were used to contain and present highly prized gifts amongst the aristocracy, particularly gold coins. They could also contain sweets, or perfumes. Such bags were highly and richly embroidered often leaving none of the background cloth visible. using gold, silver and silk threads. The floral design in this project is the beautful white and green Christmas Rose. This name stems from an old legend which speaks of the flower growning out of the snow from the tears of a child who had no gift to bring at the birth of Christ. This project makes a perfect tree ornament. A choice of two color ways will be provided green & white with a silver background or pink and green with a gold background. All materials included with fabrics, preprinted design lines, and a fully illustrated book.

Ayershire Whitework was developed in 19th century Scotland and flourished as a successful cottage intdustry. It was used to adorn baby gowns and bonnets, also delicate garments, and handkerchiefs. A full working kit is provided containing all materials required, fabrics are preprinted with design lines, and a fully illustrated book is included. This work does require a magnifier and is not suitable for those with eyesight issues.

Our signature courses are the RSN Certificate and RSN Diploma courses in technical hand embroidery which are taught at our base at Hampton Court Palace (HCP) in south west London, as well as at our UK satellite centres in Bristol, Rugby, Durham and Glasgow and internationally in Japan and the USA
These courses enable you to develop solid skills in hand embroidery and, on completion , you will become part of a long tradtion of maintaining the highest standards in technical embroidery.
