Introduction to hand hemstitching and creating mitered corners.  

A Two Day Class - Learn to pull threads, develop basic hemstitching techniques, and mitering perfect corners.   In this class you will create a small fine linen handkerchief.   By the end of the class, you will have accomplished beautiful classic techniques in fine linen making.

Introduction to Crewel Work

  William Morris Flora Motif

Day Class - October 11

10 am - 4 pm

Inspired by William Morris’ bold textile design Windrush, we will explore a number of traditional crewel embroidery stitches (stem stitch, long and short shading, blanket stitch, French knots and heavy chain stitch) using crewel wools on a linen twill fabric in order to stitch this contemporary design.

Suitable for beginners/intermediate level stitchers. Full instructions are given to enable you to complete at home if necessary

The class kit will include everything you require to complete the project. You may like to bring your own embroidery scissors and you will be able to borrow ring frames, magnifiers and lights (if needed) on the day.

Silk & Gold Nutcracker Soldier
Day Class - October 12-13
10 am - 4 pm

Join RSN Tutor Pippa Foulds and learn how to stitch this wonderful Nutcracker Soldier in Silk Shading and Goldwork, with some padding and leather appliqué along with elements of surface embroidery. Some previous experience is necessary for this intermediate course.

The class kit will include everything you require to complete the project. You may like to bring your own embroidery scissors and you will be able to borrow ring frames, magnifiers and lights (if needed) on the day.

Raised Embroidery Flower
Day Class - October 15

This beautiful Raised Embroidery flower is inspired by Pippa’s own Raised Embroidery piece which was in turn inspired by a 17th century design for a casket at the Met.

Students will learn the techniques to enable them to complete the flower. There will be silk wrapped purls, a needlelace petal, wired silk embroidery leaves and needleweaving for the grass.

The class kit will include everything you require to complete the project. You may like to bring your own embroidery scissors and you will be able to borrow ring frames, magnifiers and lights (if needed) on the day.

Silk Shading & Silver Historical Ecclesiastical Motif

This beautiful design was inspired by a cope at Liverpool Cathedral and will offer a wonderful opportunity to explore the art of ecclesiastical embroidery.

The class kit will include everything you require to complete the project. You may like to bring your own embroidery scissors and you will be able to borrow ring frames, magnifiers and lights (if needed) on the day.

This wonderful Whitework design is inspired by the white drawing room at the Lake District Arts & Crafts House designed and with interiors by Bailie Scott.
