Traditional Embroidery
All Classes can be taken by those interested in Leisure or Vocational Study.
May 10-12 Basic Embroidery I-III

Beginner's Welcome - Tuition: $295

Day I - An introduction class to the traditional techniques of hand embroidery. Basic embroidery stitches will be taught. A sampler of stitches will be provided which includes all materials necessary to accomplish the work. Stitches and techniques are presented during class time. You will be required to spend time practicing what you have learned in the session.
Day II - III This is a continuation from Basic I. In this class you will put into practice your foundational stitches with a beautiful sampler filled with motifs from the Arts & Crafts /Art Nouveau Period. During this session, you will learn how to use your basic embroidery stitches - you will be able to stitch beautifully motifs suitable for linens. All work is done in color.
Total Class Hours: 18 Hours with class materials provided.

This course covers basic whitework stitches and techniques used in creating beautiful heirloom quality linens. The sessions will include preparation and layout of a design and using professional whitework embroidery techniques to obtain very fine results. A sampler of stitches will be taught and practiced during these sessions. The stitches must be practiced both in class and out of class to be effective. On Day II-III a beautiful sampler is provided that is filled with classical motifs that are most suitable for linens.
Total Class Hours: 18 Hours of Instruction with class materials provided. Prerequisite is basic embroidery skills.

Monograms for Beginners

This class is designed to take the beginner embroiderer (prerquisite of basics) to the next level. A beginner's introduction to Monograms. The foundational stitches used in Basic Embroidery and Whitework to introduce the embroiderer to a Level I approach to easily accomplishing a beautiful monogram technique that is quick to learn and stitch.
Prerequisite: Basic Embroidery
Total of 6 Hours of Instruction
Two 3 hour evening sessions
May 17-19 Classic French Monograms I - III

Class will focus upon fine hand monograms in the French Style.
Day I: An introduction to 3 styles of traditional monograms. This class teaches traditional stitching styles typically used in French Trousseau monograms.
Day II-III A sampler is provided with more complex monograms with their styles, techniques, and language. All these fascinating levels will be explored. Transfer techniques will be discussed and applied during the 3 days.
This class requires basic embroidery and whitework skills as a prerequisite. All materials will be provided. Samplers with specific techniques will be used in both classes. Total of 18 hours of Instruction.

Day I-II A fine linen sampler will be provided with small delicate and intricate
French traditional motifs. Through our archival collections, we will be using
beautiful and fancy initials. As well as fancy small initials, we will explore
embroidery techniques for intricate wreaths and floral embellishment perfect for a very elaborate wedding handkerchief. These motifs will also work well for creating your own trousseau linen collection. We will explore the language of traditional trousseau embroidery, and the transfer techniques used for the perfect layout plan.
Day III Layout - transferring your own selected initial & floral embellishment will be applied. Your own motif will be created, and selected techniques will be chosen for your creation.
A Total of 18 hours of Instruction. This class is for Intermediate/Advanced Monogramming. It is recommended that you have taken our Whitework & French Monograms classes before attending this advanced study.

Day I-II - An assortment of traditional small men's motifs and fonts will be provided on a linen sampler. These motifs, though seemingly simple and minimal requires the utmost in precision work. You will be guided through the process and techniques of hand monogramming accurate small/tiny initials and embellishments for that "Savile Row" look to your work.
This class is perfect as an accompaniment to our Wedding monograms. You will learn techniques that once perfected, will be useful for creating pocket squares and embroidering tuxes for all the men in the wedding party
A Total of 12 hours of Instruction. This class is for Intermediate level skill. Whitework recommended as prerequisite.

Introduction to hand hemstitching and creating mitered corners.
A Two Day Class - Learn to pull threads, develop basic hemstitching techniques, and mitering perfect corners. In this class you will create a small fine linen handkerchief. By the end of the class, you will have accomplished beautiful classic techniques in fine linen making.

Hand Rolled Handkerchiefs and Pocket Squares
A One Day Class

10 am to 4 pm
In this class you will create a small fine linen handkerchief using typical hand roll techniques used in famous silk scarves such as Hermes and other designers. You will learn the proper technique in creating the perfect hand rolled pocket square using fine Irish linen.
By the end of the class, you will have accomplished a beautiful classic technique in fine linen making. Practice will make perfect.
This is a much sought after skill used in high end fashion accessories..
