THE BASICS
These two classes combined, will provide the embroiderer with solid techniques used in both our workrooms and in traditional hand embroidery found in home decor, ecclesiastical, and fashion design.
February 3-5, 2020
Basic Embroidery
9 am - 3 pm
Tuition: $295
A three day class exploring the Basics for fine hand embroidery. The class will focus upon foundation stitches used in our professional workrooms, making fine linens. For traditional & practical uses, the Back Stitch, Split Stitch, Short & Long, Padded Satin Stitches are traditionally used to a high level of skill. These same stitch styles and techniques will be taught and perfected during our 3 day sessions.
You will be provided two samplers with motifs focusing upon the above mentioned stitches. Although basic and simple, we assist the embroiderer to focus upon perfecting their stitches to an excellent standard.
Perfect for Beginners to experienced embroiderers.

Whitework Embroidery I-III

A Three Day class in Whitework embroidery. This class focuses upon learning and perfecting the stitches included in Basics, while building upon those stitch styles, adding more dimension and technique necessary to accomplish trousseau level white on white. Trousseau whitework is particular to fine linens. The techniques taught in this course are authentic to the Parisian alteliers featuring fine linens and hand embroidery. Particular transferring of motifs will also be introduced during this class.
Prerequisite: Experience in Basic Embroidery Recommended

Beginners Hand Monogramming

This class is a perfect opportunity to take your new basics skills to the next level. Our introduction class will teach you the foundations for creating a beautiful hand monogrammed initial.
A beginner's class in learning the art of fine trousseau hand monogramming. This ribbon monogram is from a Parisian embroidery house - this traditional motif dates back to early - mid 20th century.
Your own personalized hand towel will be provided. You will learn the basic and simplified stitching that will enable you to create your own personalized linens and other items. Please indicate your initial preference.
Pre-requisite: Basic Embroidery Experience Recommended

Traditional Hand Monograms
French Monogramming
9 am - 3 pm
Tuition: $330
Day I: A primary sampler will be furnished with 3 styles of fancy initials found typically in French hand monograms. You will be introduced to the primary stitch techniques used in accomplishing fancy initials and intertwined monograms.
Day II: A more extensive sampler is provided with an array of 19th - 20th century traditional initials found in fancy hand monogramming. These motifs are used typically in creating beautiful linens and accessories.

Creating Small Monograms

Men's Professional Monograms
This four day class will focus upon high end small monograms. These traditional skills are required in the most prestigious of ateliers. Shirts - handkerchiefs- pocket squares are popular services required in this market.
Techniques in transferring initials - proper placement of monograms on shirts - handkerchiefs - pocket squares will be addressed. Needle sizes - traditional fine stitches in cording - nuances used to perfect the skill and obtain right results every time.
Prerequiste: Prior Hand Embroidery Skills in Basic - Whitework Embroidery
